On Windows 11, classic entries are behind Show more options at the bottom of the right-click menu (or press Shift+F10). Yosh is there.

On any version, Send to, Yosh it! always works for any selection.

If it is missing everywhere: restart Explorer (open Task Manager, right-click Windows Explorer, Restart), or sign out and back in. If that does not help, run the installer again and keep "Right-click menu" ticked.

Yosh is new, and its installer is not yet code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC" and some antivirus programs are cautious about unfamiliar installers that add a right-click menu.

Check that the SHA-256 of your file matches the one on the download page. If it does, the file is exactly what we published. In SmartScreen choose More info, then Run anyway. If your antivirus quarantined it, restore it and add an exception for that file.

If you think it is a false alarm, tell us which program flagged it and what it called the file. We report these to the vendor.

Balanced and Maximum trade speed for size: about 1 MB/s per core. Large jobs use every core automatically.

• Choose Fast (hold Shift when you right-click) for 4 to 8 MB/s.
• Inputs under 16 MB use one core. Combining small files into one archive does not change that.
• Already-compressed files (video, JPEG, ZIP) cannot shrink, so they are not worth the time. Leave them out.

Yosh unpacks the archive from the start of its 16 MB block up to the file you want, at about 1 MB/s per core. Files stored early open quickly; one near the end of a block can take around 15 seconds. After that, other files from the same block open instantly.

If you need a lot of files out of an archive, use Extract all or select them and choose Extract to. That unpacks each block once.

Each core in use needs about 300 MB of free memory (about 450 MB for Maximum). Close other programs, or on the command line use -j1 so Yosh uses one core at a time.

The archive changed after it was made: an interrupted download or copy, a failing disk, or another program. Yosh will not hand you data it cannot verify.

• Copy the archive again from where it came from and use Test on the new copy.
• Check the disk or USB stick for errors.
• Keep your original files until you have tested an archive, and keep backups of anything important.

Run the installer again and keep ".yosh files" ticked. If an icon is stale, restart Explorer. To pick the program yourself, right-click a .yosh file, Open with, Choose another app, Yosh.

Untick Keep Yosh up to date automatically in the Yosh window (Start menu, Yosh). Press Check for updates to check now and see why an update did not install.

Yosh only installs updates that carry our signature and are newer than your version. If your network blocks yoshit.robinbawss.com, install the new version by hand from the download page.

Settings, Apps, Yosh Compressor, Uninstall. Your .yosh archives stay where they are. If the right-click entry lingers until you restart, that is Windows still holding the file.
